Iranian Ambassador Calls Western Media’s War Narrative Unjust and Biased

Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi has described the Western media’s narrative of the war as completely unjust and biased.
He said an important dimension of war is the “media war”. According to him, Palestinians and displaced people in Gaza are portrayed one way while Israel is portrayed differently in Western mainstream media. “This narrative is completely unjust and biased,” he said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday at an international seminar titled “War in West Asia and Global Media: Moral Responsibility and Introspection” at the Central Auditorium of Jagannath University. Organised by the university’s Department of Film and Television, the seminar focused on the role of the media in the war in West Asia, information warfare, journalistic ethics, international law and humanitarian responsibility.
Speaking about the role of an independent media, the Iranian ambassador said the media should stand not for any particular side, but for truth, justice and the fundamental principles of international law. He called on the media to raise questions about attacks on hospitals, children, schools, women and historical sites during wartime.
The Iranian ambassador claimed that Iran’s political system remains intact and that no part of the country’s territory has been occupied. He left it to the audience at the seminar to judge the extent of the United States’ so-called victory over Iran.
Gregory J. Simons, a former professor at Sweden’s Uppsala University, presented the keynote paper at the seminar. Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rais Uddin and Sofia Kuteppova, press secretary to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, also spoke at the event.
Professor Dr Shah Md Nistar Jahan Kabir, chairman of the Department of Film and Television, chaired the seminar.
