Arab League Strongly Condemns Violation of Al-Aqsa’s Sanctity

The Arab League has strongly condemned the entry of thousands of Israeli settlers into the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem. The bloc of Arab countries warned that any attempt to change the historic and legal status of the holy site will make the situation more tense.

The Jerusalem Governorate told Al Jazeera that more than 10,000 Israeli settlers have forced their way into the Al-Aqsa compound since the Jewish festival of Sukkot began last Saturday. They entered under heavy protection from Israeli police. Inside the mosque grounds, they carried out various religious rituals.

Israeli authorities have also tightened restrictions on local Palestinians. According to the Governorate, they have issued at least 80 bans in the past three months. These bans have stopped local Palestinian residents from entering the Al-Aqsa compound.

The Arab League said such provocative steps are making the Middle East peace process even more uncertain. The organization has demanded an immediate end to these intrusions into the Al-Aqsa compound.
