A national consultation meeting and press briefing was held yesterday around 12:30 pm at the Tinshed Sabujgari point, next to the Ijtema ground in Tongi. The aim was to hold World Ijtema 2027 in a fair, peaceful and smooth way and to carry out the government’s decision on the use of the Ijtema ground. Top scholars from different areas of the country, madrasa Muhtamims and elders of the Tabligh Jamaat took part.
After the meeting, Mr. Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari spoke from a written statement. He said some important quarters of the government had recently been asking him and other top scholars and Tabligh elders to allow Saad Followers to hold an Ijtema. He had said he would give a decision after talking with the scholars. This consultation meeting was held with the country’s top scholars as a result.
The meeting made two demands to the government with everyone agreeing. First, Saad Followers must not be given any chance to hold any Ijtema or Tablighi activities at the World Ijtema ground in Tongi. Second, the government must finish a quick and fair investigation of the two cases filed against Saad Followers over the killings of 2018 and 2024, and arrange for chargesheets to be submitted.
The speakers said the two murder cases are now being investigated by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). They called on the government to finish the investigations quickly and bring those responsible to justice. The scholars said they took this position to protect the religious atmosphere, overall discipline and peaceful holding of the World Ijtema. They also demanded that the government’s earlier decision on the use of the ground be carried out, so that the 2027 World Ijtema can be held without trouble.
