Bangladesh Serviced $705M Foreign Debt in July-August

Bangladesh serviced $698.92 million in foreign debt during the first two months (July-August) of the current FY2026-27, amounting to approximately Tk 8,626 crore in local currency. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, debt servicing stood at $667.11 million (Tk 8,131 crore), reflecting a year-on-year increase of $31.81 million.

The latest update from the Economic Relations Division (ERD), released on Sunday, revealed these figures. According to the report, principal repayments accounted for $516.04 million (around Tk 6,369 crore) of the total amount paid in July and August. Meanwhile, interest payments totaled $182.88 million (about Tk 2,257 crore).

During these same two months, foreign loan disbursements reached $294.56 million. Additionally, Bangladesh secured $240 million in new loan commitments during July-August, compared to $243.8 million received in the same period last fiscal year.
