Calm Returns to the Garment Industry as Workers Continue Production at Kaliakair Factories Even on Holidays

Savar, Ashulia, Gazipur, and Narayanganj have returned to complete normalcy following recent unrest, demonstrations, factory vandalism, and road blockades by garment workers. The overall situation across key industrial pockets remains entirely peaceful. Reflecting this stability, 88 garment factories in the Savar-Ashulia industrial belt operated on the weekly holiday, with workers joining their shifts without incident. According to Industrial Police, it is standard practice for select units to remain operational on weekends to meet urgent shipment deadlines. Workers reported for duty peacefully across all operating units on Friday, and no disruptions or untoward incidents were reported.
Workers at factories in Kaliakair, Gazipur, worked on Friday, a regular weekly holiday, to recover delayed shipments. Visits to the area showed that ‘Ecotex’ (Samahar) in the Hartakitola area of Kaliakair Municipality and the ‘Apex’ factory in the Kalampur area remained open today. Workers joined their respective workstations spontaneously from early morning to carry out operations for scheduled shipments.

Sujan, a machine operator at the Apex Holdings factory, said that production had been suspended for the past few days, creating uncertainty over sending goods on time. Workers voluntarily reported for duty today to save those shipments. Another worker, Rajani, stated that the factories will remain closed on Saturday, November 7, an official public holiday. Today’s additional work was arranged to adjust for that upcoming holiday.

According to factory sources, owners were previously forced to keep several garment factories in Kaliakair closed due to recent labor unrest. This raised serious concerns about failing to deliver goods to foreign buyers within scheduled deadlines. A few factories were kept open today to offset those losses and hand over products to buyers on time.

Meanwhile, visits across Hartakitola, Kalampur, and surrounding industrial areas in Kaliakair from Friday morning until the afternoon revealed no signs of tension, untoward incidents, or labor unrest. The overall law and order situation remains normal, and the atmosphere across the industrial region is entirely calm.
