Can Those Who Use Black Hair Dye Enter Paradise?

Question: Someone said that people who use black hair dye will not be allowed to enter Paradise. Is this true? I use black dye on my beard. What should I do now?

Answer: The person who made this statement should provide evidence from Islamic Shariah to support it. Hadiths mention that certain people will not enter Paradise, but this has not been stated specifically about those who use black hair dye.

However, using black hair dye without a Shariah-compliant reason is discouraged. A hadith instructs Muslims to refrain from using black dye. Henna or other mixed-colour dyes are preferable. Shades such as grey, bluish-black and ash are also good options.

There comes a time in life when it is better to leave one’s beard white. In old age, the whiteness of a believer’s hair and beard is a special form of spiritual light.
