Many Left Without Fertiliser Despite Queuing from 5am; Anger Mounts Against Dealer

Farmers Face Hardship Amid Allegations of Irregularities in Fertiliser Distribution in Mohanpur

Many farmers in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi have alleged irregularities in fertiliser distribution by M/s Asha Traders in Keshorhat Municipality, saying they waited in a long queue outside the shop from 5am on the scheduled distribution day but failed to obtain fertiliser.

They alleged that instead of supplying fertiliser to farmers waiting in line, the dealer provided it to people entering the shop through a concealed route. Later, the waiting farmers were told that the fertiliser had run out, leaving them frustrated and angry.

According to the affected farmers, they had been waiting outside the shop since early morning in the hope of collecting fertiliser. However, just five minutes before distribution began, they were instructed to join another queue. Although they followed the instructions, they alleged that fertiliser was being supplied to people entering through another route rather than those waiting in the designated line.

After waiting for a long time, the farmers were informed by the dealer that no fertiliser remained. The incident sparked anger and disappointment among those who had been waiting.

The farmers said such difficulties in collecting fertiliser during a crucial period for agricultural activities could disrupt their cultivation. They demanded transparency in fertiliser distribution and arrangements to ensure that genuine farmers receive fertiliser according to the prescribed rules.

Abdul Aziz, proprietor of M/s Asha Traders, said, “There was fertiliser. It will be distributed tomorrow. It is not possible to provide fertiliser to everyone today because of the crowd.”

Mohanpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Kamrul Islam said the allegations of irregularities would be investigated and action would be taken accordingly.

The farmers called for an investigation into the alleged irregularities and appropriate measures to ensure that genuine farmers can obtain fertiliser without harassment.
