German Vice Minister Arrives in Dhaka Today to Strengthen Development Cooperation

Dr Bärbel Kofler, Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, is arriving in Dhaka today, Sunday, on a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening development cooperation with Bangladesh and identifying new areas of future partnership.
The visit includes bilateral discussions, political dialogue and visits to development projects in Bangladesh.
The German Embassy in Dhaka announced the visit in a press release on Saturday evening, October 24. It said Dr Kofler would lead a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Bangladesh is currently undergoing an economic transformation while preparing to graduate from the least developed country (LDC) category. Against this backdrop, the discussions will focus on ensuring long-term stability, strengthening resilience to economic shocks and promoting sustainable growth.
Germany, a longstanding development partner of Bangladesh, seeks to further strengthen bilateral relations. Identifying new areas of cooperation beyond traditional assistance frameworks will also be a key focus, particularly in view of Bangladesh’s upcoming LDC graduation and changing development needs.
During the visit, Dr Kofler will participate in political dialogue with Bangladeshi government representatives. She is also scheduled to visit various development projects under implementation in Chattogram.
While in Dhaka, the German representative will attend an event organised at the German Embassy to celebrate German Unity Day.
Senior government officials from Bangladesh and Germany, civil society representatives, diplomats, and prominent figures from cultural and media circles are expected to attend the event.
East and West Germany were reunified on October 3, 1990, ending decades of division during the Cold War. German Unity Day is observed annually to commemorate this historic event.
According to the German Embassy’s press release, Dr Kofler’s visit reflects Germany’s commitment to continuing its support for Bangladesh’s sustainable development.
