Hefazat Protests Law Minister’s Remarks On Constitution

• Controversial Book Gift To Hafezes Deeply Regrettable

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh leaders expressed strong protest over two recent issues on Saturday. Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari serves as Ameer of the organization. Allama Sheikh Sajidur Rahman serves as Secretary General. Both leaders issued a joint statement addressing their concerns.

The statement first addressed the book controversy at the hafez reception. Organizers gave a copy of Nexus to the Quran competition winners. Mr. Yuval Noah Harari wrote this controversial and allegedly anti-Islamic book. The leaders called this choice deeply troubling for the nation.

The leaders praised the government’s decision to honor the hafezes nationally. They called this a praiseworthy step in a country with 95 percent Muslims. However, they said gifting Mr. Harari’s book at such a sacred event was deeply regrettable. They called it unwelcome and hurtful to Muslim religious sentiment.

The leaders explained their religious objection to the book’s content. They said the Holy Quran clearly declares homosexuality a serious sin. They said Mr. Harari’s writing and worldview directly conflict with Islamic values and beliefs.

They then raised a serious question about how this happened. They asked whether officials acted negligently without the Prime Minister’s knowledge. They also asked whether a deliberate conspiracy caused this incident. They demanded an immediate investigation into the matter.

The leaders demanded quick corrective action from the government. They want officials to withdraw the book from all hafez recipients immediately. They want authorities to replace it with a proper Islamic heritage text instead. They also called for a permanent screening committee for future official gifts.

They said this committee should review all books and gifts at government and Islamic events. This step would prevent similar controversies going forward.

The statement then turned to comments from Law Minister Mr. Asaduzzaman. He reportedly said the constitution could draw guidance from the Quran. However, he added that the Quran itself should not serve as the constitution.

The Hefazat leaders strongly criticized this statement. They called it a serious blow to Muslim religious belief and conviction. They argued the Holy Quran is not a temporary human made law. They described it as Allah’s eternal and final constitution for humanity.

They contrasted this with human made constitutions, which can change over time. They said Allah’s words remain permanent and unchangeable truth. They called the minister’s remarks deeply concerning given his official position.

The leaders demanded the minister clarify his position publicly and immediately. They also called on him to withdraw his statement entirely. They further urged him to repent for these remarks.

They closed with a broader warning about religious matters. They said the country’s faithful population will always speak out against such actions. They said this applies whenever faith, Islamic tradition, or religious values face attack.
