Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council and Puja Celebration Council of Spreading Misinformation: Suranjan Ghosh

Suranjan Ghosh, president of the Bangladesh Muslim-Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Forum, has accused the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council and the Puja Celebration Council of spreading false information at home and abroad, saying their activities have disappointed the nation.
He made the remarks while presiding over a protest and sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club at 11am on Sunday (October 25), organised to protest what the forum described as misleading campaigns and other misinformation by the two organisations.
Mr. Ghosh alleged that the Puja Celebration Council had strategically arranged incidents of idol vandalism and other disturbances at various temples through its own associates to distribute government grants among its members.
He also rejected as entirely baseless the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson’s expression of concern over 141 incidents of communal attacks in Bangladesh, which followed a statement by the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council. He strongly condemned and protested the statement.
Mr. Ghosh also thanked, congratulated and expressed gratitude to the prime minister and all government officials and employees for ensuring the highest level of security and overall cooperation during this year’s Durga Puja, as well as for providing what he described as a record amount of government grants for the festival in Bangladesh’s history.
Mahbubur Rahman, general secretary of the forum, strongly condemned statements issued by the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council and the Puja Celebration Council and demanded the publication of a white paper on the matter. He warned that his organisation would take legal action in the interest of the country and its people if the demand was not met.
Vice-President Shyamal Chakraborty strongly condemned the eviction of Bengali-speaking Muslim families in India’s West Bengal and Assam, the vandalism of mosques and the harassment of Bangladeshi travellers.
Among others present at the sit-in programme were Md Al Amin, Md Anwar Hossain Dipu, Al Amin (Sumon), Biplobul Haque Biplob, Md Habibur Rahman Habib, Md Masud Rana, Abdul Kader, Md Jasim Uddin (Sagar), Ramna Mala and Md Mostafa.
