Is It Permissible to Eat Chicken Without Knowing How It Was Slaughtered?

Question: I do not know whether chickens served as fried chicken at Chinese restaurants or by companies such as Kazi Farms Kitchen are slaughtered in the name of Allah. Is it permissible to eat them?

Answer: In a Muslim society, it is generally reasonable to assume that those who prepare and serve commonly consumed food observe Islamic requirements for slaughtering animals and birds as part of their religious and ethical duties. On this basis, eating such food is permissible.

However, if there is sufficient credible evidence that the animals were not slaughtered according to Islamic rules, it is necessary to avoid eating them. Islamic law does not encourage excessive suspicion without reasonable grounds.
