Medical Fee for Malaysia-Bound Workers Set at Tk 8,000

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has set the medical examination fee at Tk 8,000 per person for general workers seeking employment in Malaysia. No additional charges can be collected beyond the fixed amount, the ministry has said.
In a press release issued on Saturday, October 31, the ministry advised workers not to fall prey to brokers or middlemen during the medical examination process. It also clarified that no fee is required for a MyGrams slip.
Under the new guidelines, no medical centre will be allowed to work exclusively under any particular recruiting agency. Workers seeking employment in Malaysia will be free to undergo medical examinations at any government-approved medical centre.
The ministry also said that if a worker decides to migrate through a different agency after obtaining a medical slip from another agency, the previous agency must transfer the medical report without delay. No objection or excuse from the previous agency will be accepted.
The ministry has also warned against excessive medical fees, harassment and unnecessary delays. Workers facing such irregularities have been asked to submit written complaints to the ministry’s designated email address: secretary@probashi.gov.bd.
Strict legal action will be taken against any medical centre found involved in irregularities during regular monitoring, the ministry warned.
The ministry urged all concerned to strictly follow the instructions to ensure transparency and discipline in the overseas employment process.
