No Water, No Indian Goods: Nahid Islam

Indian products will not be allowed entry into Bangladesh if river water does not flow, National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Md. Nahid Islam said on Sunday (Nov 1). Speaking at the National Youth Conference-2026 held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium on National Youth Day, he declared that no transit, corridors, or Indian broadcasts would be permitted without a fair water-sharing agreement.

Recalling Maulana Bhashani’s historic Farakka Long March, Mr. Nahid stated that the nation remains prepared to organize similar marches if necessary.

Criticizing the government’s efforts to secure foreign loans, he claimed international trust has eroded. Addressing the Matarbari project, he urged full transparency regarding agreements with Japan and insisted that no international treaty be ratified without parliamentary debate. He warned that any attempts to grant unlawful transit or corridor access to India would face strong public resistance.
Regarding constitutional reform opinions requested by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Mr. Nahid rejected the initiative, stating that electoral discussions are finalized and further talks are unwarranted. He called for the immediate establishment of a constitutional reform commission to execute reforms aligned with public referendum outcomes.

Addressing ongoing labor discontent, Mr. Nahid voiced support for workers demanding fair wages. He criticized wage hikes limited to government employees and urged an immediate revision of private-sector and labor wages to eliminate pay disparity.

The conference featured NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen and Senior Joint Convener Nasiruddin Patwary as special guests. It was chaired by Yuva Shakti Convener Advocate Tarikul Islam and moderated by its Member Secretary Engineer Farhad Sohel.
