Remittance hits US$602m in first five days of August

Bangladesh received US$602 million in remittances during the first five days of August, the second month of FY2026-27, marking an 83.7 percent year-on-year increase. During the same period last fiscal year, expatriate Bangladeshis had sent US$328 million.
The information was confirmed by Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan. According to the central bank’s latest data, expatriates remitted US$196 million on August 4 and 5 alone.
Total remittance inflows from the beginning of July to August 5 reached US$3.461 billion, up from US$2.806 billion during the corresponding period last year, representing a 23.3 percent annual increase.
Sector insiders attributed the sustained growth to greater use of formal banking channels, tighter surveillance against Hundi transactions and a relatively favourable exchange rate. They said the strong remittance inflow supports the economy by strengthening foreign exchange reserves, financing imports and maintaining external sector stability.
