15 solar power projects planned to attract foreign investment

Invest Bangladesh has planned to carry out 15 large scale solar power projects under public private partnership (PPP) to attract foreign investment in the renewable energy sector. Steps are planned to move forward investment opportunities in these projects within the next few months. This may create new potential for raising the country’s power generation capacity and spreading renewable energy.
The agency presented the investment potential of these projects at the World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha, Qatar. About 100 people took part in the session on infrastructure and manufacturing projects, including institutional investors, international financing institutions and representatives of investment promotion agencies.
An Invest Bangladesh press release said Mr. Nahian Rahman Rochi, a member of the agency and head of its investment development division, presented details of the investable projects. He spoke at a session titled “Invest in Bangladesh: The Billion Dollar Opportunity Hiding in Plain Sight.”
Along with the solar power projects, investment chances were shown in renewable energy production on government land, liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, the proposed Chattogram Free Trade Zone, port facilities and the Matarbari Green Dockyard. Investment chances were also presented in electronics, advanced technology textiles and medical equipment manufacturing.
Mr. Nahian Rahman Rochi said investors showed interest in how to take part in the proposed projects. He said regional partners also showed interest in exploring joint investment in economic zones, ports and dry docks. He said these investments can help meet Bangladesh’s growing demand and also expand regional trade. He said later talks will stress setting project needs and bringing together investors, operating companies and financing partners.
On the first day of the forum, Invest Bangladesh Chairman Mr. Ashik Chowdhury took part in a ministerial level panel discussion on turning energy transition priorities into investable projects. He said that merging several agencies to form Invest Bangladesh has brought investor identification, project site preparation, policy coordination and PPP framework work under one platform. He also described the proposed Sonagazi solar power project on unused government land. In his view, this project can be a model to follow for similar initiatives.
The World Investment Forum 2026 was held in Doha earlier this week over three days, organized by the UN trade and development body UNCTAD and hosted by the Government of Qatar. Along with the forum, Invest Bangladesh is also working on bilateral meetings with possible investors and on stronger coordination among investment promotion agencies.
