Trump Vows to Veto Every Bill if Democrats Take Control of Congress

US President Donald Trump has threatened to veto every bill sent to him by Democrats if they take control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections. He also said he would establish himself as “Mr Veto” in such a situation.

Mr. Trump made the remarks in an interview on Pod Force One, a podcast hosted by New York Post journalist Miranda Devine, ahead of the midterm elections on Tuesday (November 3).
Asked what he would do if Democrats gained control of either the House of Representatives or the Senate, Mr. Trump said, “I think I would become Mr Veto. I am not going to let them destroy the country.”

He said that if he continued vetoing Democratic bills for a month or two, they would eventually realise that the process was only wasting time. They would then be compelled to negotiate and reach an agreement, he added.
However, Mr. Trump expressed confidence that Republicans would win the elections. “I think we’re going to win. We’re going to do very well. But if we don’t, I’ll veto everything. Veto, veto, veto,” he said.

During his first term, Mr. Trump vetoed 10 bills. So far in his second term, he has vetoed two.
Under the US Constitution, Congress can override a presidential veto and turn a bill into law if it secures the support of two-thirds of members in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

During the interview, Mr. Trump also expressed interest in running for president for a third time. However, he acknowledged that the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice.
