3 More Children Die from Measles in Bangladesh

Three more children died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,218 others were reported to have measles or measles-like symptoms during the same period. The figures were released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its regular measles situation report on Friday afternoon, August 7. No confirmed measles deaths were recorded during the past 24 hours, although three children died with measles symptoms.

Since March 15, a total of 860 deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms have been reported nationwide. Of these, 764 children died with measles symptoms, while 96 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles. The DGHS also reported 85 newly confirmed measles cases and 733 additional people with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, Bangladesh has recorded 133,638 suspected measles cases, including 16,740 laboratory-confirmed infections. The report said 115,879 people with measles or measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since March 15. Of them, 111,857 have recovered and been discharged after treatment.
