Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that 3,000 to 4,000 megawatts of solar power will be added to the national grid next year, emphasizing that the government aims not only to generate electricity but also to reduce costs.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning (November 3) while inaugurating the Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka. The theme for this year’s expo is “Utilize every inch of rooftop, increase income through solar power.”

Highlighting the government’s priorities, the Prime Minister stated that instead of dwelling on past failures or criticisms regarding energy security and power generation, the administration’s primary focus is meeting future electricity demands and ensuring uninterrupted power supply for households and businesses.

The opening ceremony was attended by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, Finance Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder, and Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, along with various ministers, state ministers, members of parliament, secretaries, and other high-ranking government officials.
