US to Sell Over $2 Billion in Arms to Egypt, Kuwait and UAE

The US has approved arms and military equipment sales worth more than $2 billion to Egypt, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The US State Department notified Congress of the deals last week.
According to the State Department, Kuwait will spend about $400 million to repair its Patriot air defence systems and purchase necessary spare parts.
Egypt will purchase more than 2,000 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles and up to 200 Javelin launch units from the US. The deal will also include simulation rounds, spare parts and technical assistance from the US government. It is estimated at $832 million.
The largest deal among the three countries is with the UAE. It will purchase up to 10,000 APKWS-II laser-guided weapon systems. The weapons can be used in both air-to-air and air-to-ground operations. The deal is valued at about $1.04 billion.
The US announced the approvals on Friday. The State Department said the arms and military support would not fundamentally alter the existing military balance in the Middle East.
