Jet Fuel Price Adjustment

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has once again increased the price of jet fuel in the country. Under the newly set rates, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights (including duty and VAT) has been fixed at BDT 182.71 per liter. Last month, the price stood at BDT 165.65. This reflects an increase of BDT 17.06 per liter in October compared to September, marking a price hike of approximately 10.30 percent.

BERC issued a notification yesterday (Wednesday) announcing the revised rates. According to the notice, the new prices have taken effect today and will remain valid until further orders. BERC stated that the new rates were set based on the average Platts rate for Jet A-1 in the international market and the US dollar exchange rate cited in the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s (BPC) Letter of Credit (LC) statements.

Meanwhile, jet fuel prices for international flights have also been raised. Under the revised rates, the price of duty- and VAT-free jet fuel has been increased from $1.0770 to $1.1882 per liter. BERC’s latest decision is expected to put additional pressure on fuel costs for both domestic and international flights.
