As US President, America Deserved to Win the Nobel Peace Prize Through My Representation: Trump

US President Mr. Donald Trump has mocked Ms. Navi Pillai, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner. By his own count, he should have won the Nobel Peace Prize. But the Nobel Committee chose Ms. Pillai for the award. Mr. Trump attacked her and said she is a liberal who worked at the United Nations. He said no one knows her. This South African jurist led the UN commission of inquiry that concluded that Israel committed genocide in Gaza.

Mr. Trump said this at a Republican Party election rally in Syracuse, New York, the day before yesterday. He spoke at the rally ahead of the midterm election next month. He said the Nobel Peace Prize went to a person whose name he had never heard. He said no one else had heard it either. He called her a mysterious person. Then he added, “Still, congratulations.”

The news agency Anadolu reported this. Mr. Trump again claimed that he ended eight wars. As an example, he named the conflict between India and Pakistan. He said any one of these eight wars is enough to win a Nobel Prize. He said, “I ended eight wars. No president has done this.”

Mr. Trump then criticised the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and Norway, the country where the committee works, even more harshly. He said America should have won the Nobel Peace Prize under his leadership as US President. But that did not happen. He called it an “indelible stain” on Norway.

Mr. Trump claimed that a group of extreme ideologues has taken away the prize’s honor forever. He said these people are against democracy and are in fact enemies of civilisation. He said, “We will not forget Norway.” He said that not winning the prize is “another proof of how Norway and others keep cheating our country.”

Later, Mr. Trump wrote a post on his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote, “I know nothing about this woman, and no one else does either! In fact, as far as I know, she hates Israel. Apart from that, no one has ever heard of her.” He claimed again that he should have won the prize. He wrote that the Nobel Peace Prize has lost its honor forever because of a group of extreme ideologues who are against democracy and are enemies of civilisation.

Mr. Trump has long claimed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. So far, no one has given him the award. He has criticised this many times. Ms. Navi Pillai served as a judge and as president of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. She also worked as a judge of the International Criminal Court.

Ms. Pillai served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014. From 2021 to 2025, she led the UN commission of inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. That commission concluded that Israel committed genocide in the Gaza Strip. Israel rejected this conclusion. The Nobel Committee said Ms. Pillai played a central role in efforts to try war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. It said her work has increased the reach and impact of international law.
