Detained During Protest, Imran Khan Released Alongside Partner

Bollywood actor Imran Khan was released hours after being detained by the police for participating in a protest in Mumbai, India. His partner, Lekha Washington, and relative, Zayn Marie Khan, were also released along with him. Following their detention on Saturday, October 10, the three shared the news of their release on social media, while also raising complaints regarding the police’s conduct during the incident.
They had participated in a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. The demonstration was held to demand the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. Photos and videos of Mr. Imran, Ms. Lekha, and Ms. Zayn being taken away in a police van during the protest circulated widely on social media.
After her release, Ms. Lekha posted a video on Instagram confirming that they were safe. However, she alleged that they faced difficulties even on their way back home, claiming that the police were intimidating cab drivers who were willing to transport them, making it challenging for them to arrange a smooth return despite being released.
Meanwhile, Ms. Zayn shared multiple videos on social media detailing her detention experience. She alleged that they were not informed where they were being taken, and even after being brought to the police station, they received no clear answers from the police when asking for the reason behind their detention.
In another video, Mr. Imran Khan claimed that they were driven around in a police van to various locations for about two hours without being told why they were detained. He stated that when they asked officers for the reason for their detention and received no answer, he said ‘Jai Hind’ to the officials and left the premises. The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media.
