As the head of government, he said it is his duty to ensure the rights of every citizen. He is making the best effort to ensure the rights and safety that every citizen deserves, not on the basis of religion.
He said this yesterday while exchanging views with Hindu community leaders of the Dhaka 17 constituency. He said his Muslim activists faced torture, and his Hindu activists faced the same torture. He said there was no difference of religion in that.
The Prime Minister then explained his position on ensuring citizen rights. He said, “As a citizen of the country and as a human being, I am trying to do my duty as head of government to give you the rights and the dues you deserve.” He added that he will make the best effort to ensure the fair dues of every citizen, out of his responsibility and commitment.
At the meeting, the Hindu community leaders said they have been living in peace since the national parliamentary election. They said they are not facing any problems. The Prime Minister said, “The government plans to supply farm inputs, including fertilizer and seeds, to farmers through the Krishak Card. The government will keep detailed information on farmers, and this will help in making correct plans for the farm sector and in delivering government help more effectively.” The meeting said Bangladesh can get help in this area by using Canada’s experience in information management and data based planning.
The Prime Minister cited World Bank information and said that merging several food subsidy programmes could make the targeting of existing cash assistance programmes more effective. He said that if the Family Card is linked with this, 28.5 lakh more people in the country can be freed from poverty. He said it is very important to make people economically self reliant. He said his government is focusing on making people stand on their own feet by increasing income and job chances, along with social safety programmes.
