Prime Minister Inspects Mobile Laboratory for Food Quality Testing

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inspected the operations of a mobile laboratory as part of the government’s efforts to ensure food safety and detect adulteration.
On Wednesday morning (October 14), before entering his office at the Secretariat, he went inside the laboratory and observed the process of collecting and testing food samples. Officials concerned briefed him on the laboratory’s operations.
The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary, Hasan Shiplu, said the Prime Minister observed the food-testing process inside the mobile laboratory stationed beneath the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat. Officials informed him that the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority was working to protect public health by strengthening anti-adulteration drives and testing and monitoring food samples.
The deputy press secretary said food sample testing and monitoring are currently being conducted through mobile laboratories in eight metropolitan areas across the country. There are plans to gradually expand the programme to all 64 districts. These activities are being carried out separately through mobile courts led by executive magistrates and under the supervision of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.
He also said that the collection of 72 mobile laboratory vans is underway under a capacity-building project of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The vans will be used to test food samples at various locations and raise public awareness about food safety. Awareness videos on food safety are shown on monitors installed on the outside of the vans.
Those accompanying the Prime Minister included Food Minister Afroza Khanam, Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni, State Minister for Food Abdul Bari, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar, Public Administration Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, and senior officials from the Ministry of Food and relevant departments.
