Cornered BJP Fumes Over Neha Bora’s Bangladesh Gen-Z Remarks

All India Students’ Association (AISA) President Neha Bora has triggered a major political storm in India after praising the Gen-Z-led student uprising in Bangladesh that ousted PM Sheikh Hasina. In a video message broadcast on October 14 for the 6th National Conference of Bangladesh’s Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Ms. Bora stated that young Indian activists are drawing vital lessons and inspiration from the neighboring nation’s movement.

In the video shared on her organization’s official page, Ms. Bora remarked, ‘We know that the Gen-Z movement we see everywhere today first began in Bangladesh. Congratulations to you for showing us the path and extending solidarity toward the youth of India.’ She further emphasized that the historic protests fought for democracy and voting rights, expressing hope that the youth of both countries will fight together for a better South Asia.

The remarks drew sharp criticism from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused Ms. Bora and the opposition of conspiring to orchestrate a violent regime change. BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari labeled the statement an open confession of regime change on social media, claiming that the ongoing protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over electoral roll irregularities are part of a broader anarchist conspiracy against Indian democracy.

Echoing these concerns, Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo alleged in an interview that both Ms. Bora and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi aim to overthrow the government through anarchy. Similarly, Karnataka BJP MLC C. T. Ravi questioned whether the anti-CEC demonstrations are drawing direct inspiration from the Bangladeshi coup, warning that political instability and chaos must not be imported under the guise of student activism.

Defending the protests, Congress leader Rashid Alvi rejected the BJP’s allegations and maintained that any political transition in India will happen exclusively through democratic pathways. Mr. Alvi stated, ‘We are fighting to save the very democracy that the BJP is preaching about today,’ while demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner for allegedly undermining the nation’s democratic framework.
