After Cockroaches, ‘Makhi Janta Party’ Takes on Modi

The new political party ‘Makhi Janta Party’ (MJP) has now joined the street protests alongside the ongoing ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP) movement in India. The party has already created a massive stir on social media. Its emergence has added a new dimension to the anti-Modi movement, creating fresh discussions and widespread curiosity.
Centered around a remark made by Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant, a new political satire initiative, Makhi Janta Party, has debuted on social media. Inspired primarily by the Chief Justice’s observation that a hammer cannot be used to kill a fly, this platform was created on Instagram. Within just 72 hours of its debut, the account generated over 4 million views and gained more than 330,000 followers.
Clarifying its stance on Instagram, the Makhi Janta Party stated that it is in touch with another satirical mass movement, the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP), to explore the possibilities of conducting joint programs. MJP recently issued two separate statements, one extending support to protesting activist Neha Bora at Jantar Mantar, and another strongly condemning the police detention of two top CJP leaders.
Makhi Janta Party (MJP) is an Instagram-centric satirical platform. According to digital records, although the account was created in June 2021, it became active under the username makhijantaparty.ig after undergoing at least eight name changes. A student named Aaryan claims to be the founder and president of this organization. Recently, a notice searching for a spokesperson was also posted by the organization.
On October 9, the Supreme Court heard a petition challenging the widespread bans on internet services, metro operations, and train movements in the capital ahead of CJP’s proposed October 10 program to paralyze Delhi. During the hearing, the bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant made a stern observation, stating, ‘Public transport can be controlled for security needs, but the entire system cannot be halted. You cannot use a hammer to kill a fly.’
