July Martyr Families Demand Reinstatement of Ishraque as State Minister

Members of July martyr families and injured individuals gathered at the National Press Club under the banner of ‘Martyr Families, Injured, and Warriors of the July Mass Uprising’ to demand the immediate reinstatement of Ishraque Hossain as State Minister for Liberation War Affairs. Presenting a written statement, speakers highlighted his proactive role in safeguarding their rights, welfare, and legitimate demands during his tenure. They expressed deep concern over his resignation, warning that the vital initiatives he spearheaded must not be allowed to stall under any circumstances.

The organisers urged the government to either restore Ishraque Hossain to his position or appoint a qualified representative chosen directly from the martyr families, the injured, or experienced individuals from the July Smriti Foundation. Around 40 representatives of martyr families and injured individuals attended the event to voice their collective backing. They emphasised that maintaining dedicated, principled leadership in the ministry is essential to ensuring continuity in rehabilitation efforts, financial assistance, and long-term security for all victims of the historic July movement.

Highlighting the tangible impact of his tenure, AKM Rakibul Ahmed, father of martyr Ramiz Uddin Ahmed, praised Ishraque Hossain for offering prompt solutions to unresolved issues and advancing plans to secure permanent land for martyrs’ graves. ‘He provided significant support to our families whenever we approached him,’ Mr. Rakibul Ahmed stated, adding that if reinstatement proves impossible, an educated, principled, and dedicated candidate actively involved with the July movement and martyr families should be appointed to lead the ministry.

Echoing these demands, injured July warrior Obaidul Huq shared that Ishraque Hossain maintained regular contact with the injured and harboured concrete plans for their long-term welfare. He emphasised that reinstating him would immensely benefit the affected families, reiterating that a suitable candidate from among them must be chosen if reinstatement is not an option. Other prominent figures attending the press conference included July warrior Imran Hossain and Nurennahar, the mother of martyr Nur Hossain.
