MP Milon Visits Factories, Assures Garment Workers of Support

Amid ongoing labor unrest in Gazipur, local Member of Parliament A.K.M. Fazlul Haque Milon visited several garment factories to assess working conditions and listen directly to workers’ concerns and demands.
During his visit on Monday (Nov 2), Mr. Milon spoke with employees regarding workplace environments, pay, and related grievances.
Addressing the workers, the lawmaker stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to establishing fair rights and proper wages for laborers, noting that a wage board has already been formed to safeguard their interests.
Mr. Milon urged workers to exercise restraint and act responsibly, cautioning them against unverified rumors or provocations.
He emphasized that resolving grievances through dialogue, mutual cooperation, and responsible conduct remains key to restoring normalcy.
The visits follow widespread demonstrations across key industrial zones, including Konabari, Safipur, Mouchak, and Palli Bidyut, where garment workers blocked portions of the Dhaka-Tangail highway demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage from Tk 12,500 to Tk 30,000. Police and BGB units have been deployed to maintain order, while several factories declared general holidays due to the unrest.
