Pakistan Successfully Tests Its First Indigenous Air-to-Air Missile

Pakistan has successfully test-fired Faj, its first indigenously developed air-to-air missile, according to the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The ISPR stated that the missile is capable of striking enemy targets at long ranges. Per the ISPR statement, the test was conducted on Tuesday, November 3. The missile features an advanced terminal guidance system. The military claims that it will enhance the operational capabilities and strategic flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force while further strengthening the country’s overall defense posture.

The statement noted that this successful test reflects the progress, innovation, and self-reliance of Pakistan’s defense industry. The test was witnessed by senior military officials, scientists, and engineers associated with the missile’s development. Following the successful test, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defense Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the heads of all three services congratulated the scientists involved.

Additionally, Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the scientists and engineers on the missile’s successful test. In his remarks, he stated that the test of this indigenously developed missile marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s defense sector. Earlier last month, Pakistan test-fired two surface-to-surface missiles. On October 13, the Fatah-2 Extended Range (ER) hypersonic ballistic missile was tested. Roughly a week prior, the extended-range variant of the indigenously developed Fatah-4 surface-to-surface cruise missile was also tested.

According to the ISPR, the Fatah-2 ER missile is equipped with an advanced navigation system and state-of-the-art avionics. It is capable of striking targets with high precision. The Pakistani military claims that its specialized trajectory and maneuverability help it evade enemy missile defense systems. Regarding the Fatah-4 ER missile, the ISPR stated that with its advanced avionics and navigation system, it is capable of accurately hitting targets at extended ranges. The statement also noted that the test verified additional technical features of the missile’s various subsystems.
