Banned Awami League is inciting unrest in the garment industry, says Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General Mr. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused the fugitive Awami League and its allies of inciting unrest in the garment industry and other sectors of the country. He said talks were held on the workers’ fair demands and the problems were solved. The violent incidents that still happen have no link to the real workers’ movement.
Mr. Rizvi said this on Friday while answering journalists’ questions at a press conference at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan in the capital.
Mr. Rizvi said talks on the workers’ fair demands took place earlier and many problems were solved. Even so, shameful incidents keep happening, such as factory vandalism, arson at police boxes, vehicle burnings and the beating to death of a worker. He said ordinary and real workers have no link to these acts of sabotage.
The BNP leader claimed that most of those arrested for these recent acts of violence and incitement are involved in Jubo League and Chhatra League politics. He said the identities of some factory owners who joined such secret plots and sabotage are also slowly coming out.
Raising the issue of the ongoing chaos in the garment industry, Mr. Rizvi asked, “Does the defeated force want to bring back fascism by creating artificial unrest in the garment industry? Or is someone plotting to bring back the culture of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings to silence opposing voices?”
At the press conference, he announced BNP’s seven day program for the “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” on November 7. As part of it, a colorful central procession will be held in the capital on Saturday. It will start in front of the party office in Naya Paltan. It will pass through Kakrail, Shantinagar, Moghbazar, Banglamotor and Farmgate, and end at Manik Mia Avenue. The top leaders of the party are expected to attend as chief guests and open the procession.
Journalists asked whether there is any fear of violence around the procession. Mr. Rizvi said law enforcement agencies are fully able and ready to handle any disorder or chaos. He also said the general public will always try to stop any sabotage.
The BNP leader urged all groups not to create conflict for political gain. He said adding fuel to the fire to raise tension could harm every side in the end. He asked everyone to stay away from creating such an unstable atmosphere.
