President calls for unity to build a democratic Bangladesh

President Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on everyone, regardless of party or opinion, to unite in the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day. He urged all to end corruption, discrimination and conspiracy, and to build a democratic, just, humane and safe Bangladesh.

The President said there have been repeated conspiracies against national independence and sovereignty. Democracy was trampled and fascist misrule took hold. Through everyone’s joint efforts, the country has again started its journey toward democracy under an elected government. To keep this progress going, all state institutions, including democratic ones, must be made stronger.

The President said this in a message on the occasion of the great National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7, which falls tomorrow.

In the message, the President said, “I pay humble respect to the brave soldiers and patriotic people who took part in the landmark revolution of soldiers and people on November 7, 1975. The historic November 7 is an unforgettable day in national life and an important turning point in the history of the country.”

He said the country regained its independence and sovereignty through the united revolution of soldiers and people, in a hard time of puppet misrule, corruption, anarchy and conspiracies of domination. All conspiracies were defeated. Martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the declarer of independence, was freed from captivity. With the full support of the people, he was given the heavy duty of running the state and leading the nation out of crisis. In that critical time for the nation, his role was that of a savior.

The President said this unity of soldiers and people was an unmatched awakening, fired by the spirit of independence. The same spirit rose again in the mass uprising of 2024. Students, women, men and members of the armed forces, people from every walk of life, stood firmly together. Their unity ended 16 years of fascist rule. It also saved the country from the disaster of becoming a puppet state.

The President said in the message that, in the continuation of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, martyred President Ziaur Rahman restored multiparty democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech and the press. He played a part in bringing economic freedom and peace to society. He freed the country from a submissive foreign policy and moved it toward development, progress and prosperity based on Bangladeshi nationalism. He united the nation and established good governance at every level.

The President said that, to solve national problems, mutual respect and dialogue must go together with keeping the Jatiya Sangsad at the center. To fulfill the hopes of November 7, the state will be run on the philosophy of “Bangladesh first,” in the interest of the country and its people. National interest, equality, fairness and the practice of democracy will get the highest priority.
