PM Warns: Conspiracies Are Being Hatched at Home and Abroad, Will Be Answered

BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on everyone to remain united to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and democratic rights. He said conspiracies against Bangladesh have started again as in the past. He said every move by those plotting inside and outside the country will be answered. No one can suppress the people of Bangladesh through conspiracies.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a rally held in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, on Saturday (November 7) to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh became independent in 1971 after the sacrifice of millions of people. The main goal of independence was to build a democratic state where the rights and hopes of the people would be reflected. But since independence, various groups at home and abroad have not accepted Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. Attempts have also been made to take away the democratic rights of the people.
Referring to November 7, 1975, the Prime Minister said the united role of the soldiers and the people on that day defeated forces that were against the country’s independence and sovereignty. He said the people also established their democratic rights through the mass movement of 1990. Most recently, on August 5, 2024, the people restored their rights by bringing down the authoritarian forces through the student-people’s movement.
The Prime Minister said the people of Bangladesh have stood against injustice again and again. They have united to establish their rights. Therefore, no one can suppress the people through any conspiracy. He called on everyone to remain united again, as in 1971, November 7 and 2024, to stop the activities of those plotting against the country.
Stressing the importance of national unity, Tarique Rahman said political parties may have differences. But there should be no division over the country’s independence and sovereignty. All political parties that believe in independence and sovereignty and support people’s right to vote should work together in the interest of the country.
Earlier, Tarique Rahman arrived at the rally venue in Nayapaltan at around 2:45pm. A large number of BNP leaders, activists and members of the public gathered to welcome him. After a short rally, a procession titled “Sovereignty” began after 3pm under his leadership.
The procession started in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan. It passed through Kakrail, Hare Road, Minto Road, Hotel InterContinental intersection, Banglamotor and Farmgate before ending at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the National Parliament building.
A large number of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations took part in the procession. Participants were seen carrying the national flag of Bangladesh and placards with pictures of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.
Senior BNP leaders, cabinet members and party MPs also joined Tarique Rahman in the procession. They included BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, Amanullah Aman and Farhad Halim Donar, along with other central leaders.
