Gold price jumps by Tk 9,856 per bhori

Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has significantly increased gold prices, citing a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market. Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk 9,856 per bhori to Tk 232,930, including VAT. The revised prices came into effect from 10am yesterday.

In a statement issued yesterday morning, BAJUS said, the increase was necessary due to higher prices of pure gold. Accordingly, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will now cost Tk 232,930. Meanwhile, 21-carat gold has been priced at Tk 222,491 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 191,056. Traditional-method gold has been set at Tk 156,064 per bhori.

BAJUS said the new rates will remain effective until further notice. However, making charges will vary depending on the design of the jewellery. Since VAT is already included in the selling price, jewelers will not be allowed to charge it separately. Existing rules for jewellery exchange and purchase will also remain unchanged.

Previously, BAJUS revised gold prices on July 31, increasing the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori to Tk 223,074, including VAT. At the time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 213,043, 18-carat gold at Tk 182,950, and traditional gold at Tk 149,474 per bhori.

With the latest revision, gold prices have now been adjusted 98 times this year. Of these, prices were increased 48 times, reduced 49 times, while VAT was adjusted once. In 2025, gold prices were revised 93 times, including 64 increases and 29 reductions.

Besides gold, BAJUS has also increased silver prices. The price of 22-carat silver has been raised by Tk 292 per bhori to Tk 4,899, including VAT. Similarly, 21-carat silver has been priced at Tk 4,666 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk 4,024, and traditional silver at Tk 3,033 per bhori.
