Selling a Minor’s Inherited Property from Mother

Inquiry:
Is it permissible under Islamic law (Shariah) for a father to sell his minor child’s property, particularly property the child inherited from their deceased mother?

Response:
In general, a minor child’s wealth or property cannot be appropriated or disposed of by the mother, father, or any other person. Therefore, it is not permissible to do so. The child has a legitimate and absolute claim to the property inherited from the deceased mother. Under the circumstances described, the father is not authorised, either legally or religiously, to sell, transfer or otherwise dispose of the property.
