Fascists plot to fuel unrest in Police

A planned campaign involving misinformation, rumours and defamatory propaganda is allegedly being carried out to weaken the Bangladesh Police and create internal unrest, the Bangladesh Police Service Association said today.

The association said the campaign has emerged as police morale is gradually recovering following the August 5, 2024 mass uprising and officers are returning to their duties of maintaining law and order and public safety. It urged authorities to identify those involved and take exemplary action under existing laws and organisational rules. IGP Ali Hossain Fakir told Inqilab that police personnel are working relentlessly to improve law and order and bring criminals to justice in line with government directives.

Several officials said attempts were recently made to create divisions within the force. Competition over postings and transfers, allegations against rival officers and negative social-media campaigns have reportedly increased, affecting internal trust and professionalism. A senior police official said restoring public confidence requires unity, professionalism and prioritising the institution over personal or group interests. He stressed that allegations should be properly investigated rather than spread on social media before verification.

Police Headquarters officials said, the force suffered severe disruption after the 2024 uprising and has since undergone major administrative restructuring. The process has intensified competition for important postings. Crime experts said, the police are gradually recovering from the trauma of 2024, but stressed the need to promote competent, honest and professional officers to rebuild a public-friendly force.
