Orin Hosts Hasina’s Virtual Speech at Delhi Event

The role of Satkhira youth Mr. Abu Obaida Orin as a presenter at an event linked to a virtual speech by Awami League chief and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from New Delhi was discussed at the district law and order meeting.

The meeting was held on Sunday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Ms. Kawsar Aziz. Satkhira Press Club General Secretary Abdul Bari raised the issue. Members of parliament from Satkhira-1 and Satkhira-2, police and intelligence officials, BNP leaders and journalists attended the meeting.

Satkhira Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Md Ashraful Islam said Orin’s activities were under police observation. “We are collecting information and evidence. Necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Who is Orin?

Mr. Abu Obaida Orin is the eldest son of  Mr. Abu Shoaib Abel, a printing business owner from Lichutala in Munjitpur, near Satkhira Sadar Police Station. Abel is known as a close associate of former Awami League MP Mir Mostaq Ahmed Robi. Arin is also a nephew of former reserved-seat Awami League MP Layla Parvin Sejuti. His father confirmed that his son studied in India from the high-school level and is currently studying Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Delhi. He said he was unaware that his son had become so politically involved with the Awami League.

BNP leader Advocate Syed Iftekhar Ali, who is also a relative of Orin, said Orin has no political connection with him. On August 5, Hasina delivered a virtual speech at an FCC-organised event in New Delhi, where he reportedly served as the presenter. During the programme, he described the July uprising as “terrorist” and made controversial remarks about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The issue has sparked discussion and criticism in Satkhira. He also reportedly discussed Bangladesh’s current political and administrative situation and claimed that the Awami League’s top leadership planned to return to Bangladesh by December 2026.
