PM Calls for Turning 40 cr Hands into a Productive Workforce

Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman said the people of Bangladesh want to see their lives improve and their country move forward on the world stage. To achieve that, he stressed that the “40 crore hands of 20 crore people” must be transformed into a productive workforce.

He made the remarks on Saturday at a cheque distribution programme for underprivileged, helpless and sick people at the T&T Ground in Mohakhali, organised on the occasion of the 82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Special prayers were also offered for her departed soul.

The PM said that if any political party has a better plan than the government to resolve the country’s electricity and gas crisis, the government would adopt and implement it. However, he warned that those spreading misinformation merely to mislead the public should apologise to the people. “Misleading the public is not the duty of a politician. A politician’s responsibility is to teach patience and show the right path,” he said.

Stating that the era of “politics of chaos” is ending, the Prime Minister said previous authoritarian governments practised politics based on falsehood and disorder, while today’s politicians have pledged development. He urged political actors to abandon divisive politics and instead present plans that benefit ordinary people.

Mr. Rahman also said the days of vandalism-based street politics are over and that the public no longer supports such practices.

Referring to development work in Dhaka-17, he said even cleaning a nearby lake took six months, proving that governance is more difficult than criticism. He called on critics to engage in practical work for the people and avoid statements that could create instability.
