Eight Muslim countries strongly condemn Israel’s ‘E1’ settlement plan
The foreign ministers of eight Muslim countries have strongly condemned and rejected Israel’s controversial ‘E1’ settlement plan east of occupied East Jerusalem and all related activities.
Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates expressed their firm opposition to the move in a joint statement.
The ministers condemned Israel’s continued settlement policy and violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied territories.
Under the controversial E1 plan, 1,200 new housing units will be built in the occupied West Bank. The ministers warned that the plan is a dangerous provocation that would further expand Israeli settlements and occupation, seriously undermine the territorial integrity of Palestine and obstruct the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The eight countries also expressed full support for international measures, including sanctions and other accountability efforts, against individuals and entities involved in illegal settlement activities and the E1 plan.
They said the international community’s failure to ensure accountability has encouraged Israel to repeatedly violate international law, undermining prospects for lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
