Maldives President Muizzu Congratulates Mirza Fakhrul

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the president of the Maldives, congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the newly elected president of Bangladesh, on taking office as the country’s 23rd president in an official message delivered on Friday, August 21. On behalf of the Maldivian government and its citizens, President Muizzu wished President Alamgir well in his new position and expressed optimism for Bangladesh’s ongoing peace, development, and prosperity under his leadership.

President Muizzu emphasised that Bangladesh’s holding of its first competitive presidential election in 35 years was a significant turning point in the nation’s democratic path and described the election as an essential step forward for democracy. He emphasised that the public’s strong faith in the recently elected president was reflected in the vote. He also expressed optimism that under President Alamgir’s direction, bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives will grow and deepen, pointing out that their relationship is based on deep historical links and a shared commitment to regional stability.

The message of congratulations coincides with a period of increased diplomatic interaction between the two countries, including recent high-level visits and talks on labour cooperation, commerce, healthcare, education, and aviation connectivity. In response, the Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives reaffirmed Bangladesh’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Maldives in order to fortify brotherly relations and pursue new opportunities for bilateral cooperation while expressing profound thanks to the Maldivian government and people.
