Jamaat Ameer Warns Against Return to Fascist Practices

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the Awami League committed so many misdeeds that it was forced to flee the country and cannot return. “Once those who take responsibility for their misdeeds and flee, they cannot return,” he said.
He made the remarks yesterday while addressing a seminar at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, Dhaka. The National Seerat Celebration Committee organised the seminar titled “Principles and Ideals of the Prophet (PBUH)” on the occasion of Seerat-un-Nabi. Awards for an essay competition were also distributed.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman alleged that the current government has started following the path of the previous “fascist government” and urged it to abandon such practices. He said the mass uprising of 2024 should not be viewed as the final struggle, describing it as a rehearsal for a larger battle. He also warned that fascism is not limited to any particular group, calling it “an infectious disease.”

The Jamaat chief also criticised alleged changes to the July Memorial Museum after the elected government took office. He claimed that memorials and photographs of several victims had been removed, including those of Felani and former Chhatra Shibir president Delwar Hossain. Former interim government adviser AFM Khalid Hossain called for unity, saying, “If we are not united, the enemies can fish in troubled waters.” He also said, “A state system will be created in this country on the model of Medina, we must be prepared for this.”
