Eid-e-Miladunnabi Events Cannot Be Restricted in Face of Far-Right Opposition

Former adviser to the interim government Mahfuz Alam has called for all programmes marking Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) to be allowed to take place without hindrance. He made the appeal in a post on Facebook on Tuesday, August 25. In his Facebook post, Mahfuz Alam wrote, “All programmes by all sides on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) must be allowed to take place without hindrance. In the face of opposition from the far right, the practice of praising the Prophet (PBUH) cannot be restricted anywhere.” He further said that the culture of love and praise for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is deeply rooted in the traditions of Bengal. He wrote, “The Prophet is intertwined with the soul of Bengal. The long-standing Bengali tradition of praising the Prophet, Maulud Sharif and Naat-e-Rasul will continue.”
