11-party alliance to hold Dhaka-Chattogram long march over six-point demands

The 11-party alliance will hold a Dhaka-Chattogram long march on September 5 over six demands, including implementation of the referendum verdict, trial of the July mass killings, resolution of fuel and fertiliser shortages, control of prices of essentials, improvement of law and order, and an end to politicisation at all levels of the administration.

The announcement was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar at a press briefing on Tuesday. He said the long march would begin from Shapla Chattar in Dhaka at 7am and end at Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram, with rallies at key points along the highway. More than 1,000 vehicles could join the procession, while regular traffic would continue on the other side of the highway.

Mr. Golam Parwar also said meetings had been held with the police administration to ensure the programme is conducted peacefully and orderly. He urged people to make the long march successful without giving anyone an opportunity to provoke unrest.
