I Will Perform State Duties in a Completely Non-partisan Manner: President

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said he will work in a completely non-partisan manner while performing his state duties and for the welfare of the country.

“Before assuming office as president, I resigned from the party, Parliament and the Cabinet. I am now completely non-partisan and will perform my duties accordingly,” he said.

He made the remarks at his first Darbar with Bangabhaban officials and employees at 11:30am on Thursday. He said he would have no personal bias or resentment toward anyone while serving as president.

The country, state and people’s interests will be his sole priority. He stressed earning public trust and ensuring honesty, dedication, sincerity and responsibility. He urged Bangabhaban officials and employees to remain loyal to and respectful of the country and its people and perform their duties with sincerity and honesty.

The president said Bangabhaban is a symbol of the state’s dignity and sovereignty and its prestige must be upheld. He stressed that all daily activities and matters related to important state decisions must be kept strictly confidential to ensure state security.

He also called for responsible and economical use of state funds and prevention of waste, noting that government property and facilities are maintained with taxpayers’ money. He urged officials and employees to ensure their proper, transparent and accountable use.

He called on them to maintain discipline in their personal lives and work on developing strong moral values and good character. He also paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War.

He respectfully recalled the sacrifices and contributions of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in rebuilding the country and state after the war. He also remembered all previous presidents with respect. Addressing Bangabhaban officials and employees, he said, “We are a family here. We all work together and will try to resolve our problems through discussion whenever we get the opportunity.” He expressed hope that everyone would continue working together.
