India clarifies position on Bangladesh joining ‘Mecca defence pact’

India has clarified its position on the recently signed tripartite ‘Mecca defence pact’ between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan and Bangladesh’s possible joining of the pact. Asked about India’s position on the matter in the context of the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry’s statements on the pact, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it is closely monitoring all developments that may have an impact on India’s security.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Mr. Randhir Jaiswal said that if Bangladesh joins the pact, it would be Bangladesh’s own decision and there should be no reason for any other country to feel uncomfortable about it. However, he said India is closely monitoring all developments that may have an impact on the country’s security and will take all necessary measures to protect its national security.
