Dr. Zubaida Rahman provides treatment to 5,000 eye patients in Bogura

A large section of low-income people cannot receive eye treatment on time due to financial hardship. Many suffer from cataracts and vision problems because of financial constraints. Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman and vice-president of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, has stood beside such underprivileged people. Free medical camps are being organised to provide eye treatment to a larger section of the population out of humanitarian responsibility so that no one is deprived of medical services. According to doctors’ advice, cataract patients are receiving the opportunity for free medicines, glasses and surgeries.

Around 5,000 women, men and children in Bogura were provided free treatment yesterday. At the one-day camp initiated by Dr. Zubaida Rahman, doctors provided necessary healthcare services, including eye examinations and consultations. Women and men from different areas of the district gathered at Bogura Municipal High School and College from the morning.

It was learned that Al-Bashar International Foundation organised the free eye treatment camp with the assistance of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation. Doctors advised 500 patients suffering from cataracts and vision problems to undergo surgery. Arrangements were made for their cataract surgeries, including free lenses, at Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogura.

Members of the advisory council of the BNP chairman, vice-president of the Krishak Dal central committee and veteran politician and former MP Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu, Bogura City Corporation Administrator M R Islam Swadhin, and Al-Bashar International Foundation Country Director (Bangladesh Sector) Ahmed Taher Hamid Ali visited the eye treatment and surgery camp. Glasses and necessary medicines were distributed among the patients. District BNP leaders toured the camp, spoke with doctors and patients, and supervised the overall activities.
