Maintaining the Sequence When Reciting Surahs After Surah Al-Fatihah

Aminul Islam

Question: During our night shifts at the office, we perform Maghrib and Isha prayers in congregation. One person regularly leads the prayers as the imam. Sometimes, after reciting Surah Al-Fatihah in the first rak‘ah, the imam recites Surah Al-Ikhlas, and in the second rak‘ah, he recites Surah Al-Kawthar. In such a situation, if the imam does not maintain the chronological sequence of the surahs after Surah Al-Fatihah, will the prayer still be valid?

Answer: Yes, the prayer will be valid. However, it is preferable not to recite the surahs in this order.
