Hearing on Framing Charges Against Hasina, 33 Others in Truck Driver Hossain Murder Case on September 24

The court has fixed September 24 for a hearing on framing charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in a case over the murder of truck driver Md Hossain in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed the date after the hearing on Tuesday (September 1). State counsel M. Anisur Rahman (Anis) confirmed the matter. He said 10 of the accused are in jail. Former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak was taken to the International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday, and prison authorities could not produce him before the court in this case.

Later, the court fixed September 24 for a hearing on framing charges. Court sources said 10 of the 34 accused are in jail, while four accused who are on bail were also present in court on Tuesday. The remaining 20 have been absconding since the beginning.

According to the case records, truck driver Md Hossain was shot dead in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement. He had left his truck in Gabtoli and was returning home that day. When he reached the Chand Udyan area, he was shot and died at the scene.

On August 31, 2024, Mr Hossain’s mother, Reena Begum, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station. After completing the investigation, Mr Akramuzzaman, sub-inspector and investigation officer of Mohammadpur Police Station, submitted a charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others to the court on November 23, 2025.

The other accused are Awami League General Secretary and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader; former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal; former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud; former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak; former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak; former lawmaker Sadek Khan; Saddam Hossain, president of the banned organization Chhatra League, and its General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan; Asif Ahmed; Tarequzzaman Rajib; Sheikh Bazlur Rahman; Nur Mohammad Sentu; Tofail Siddique alias Tuhin; Rahman Mia alias AKM Ahidur Rahman; Palash; Oliur Rahman; Khalilur Rahman; Emon; SM Riazul Haque Tamim; Masudur Rahman Biplob; Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan alias MA Sattar; Parvez alias Golden Parvez; Sumon Mia alias Kailla Sumon; Milon Hossain; Sohel alias Bhuiya Sohel alias Buniya Sohel; Salim Ullah Solu; Irfan; Muhammad Badiul Alam alias Badiuzzaman; Furkan Hossain; Shahjahan Khan; Sajjad Hossain; Faruk Hossain Abhi; and Naimul Hasan Russell.

Among the accused, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Sadek Khan, Furkan Hossain and Shahjahan Khan are in jail.
