UAE provides aid to 1,500 families affected by floods and landslides
The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has provided assistance to people affected by recent floods and landslides in Bangladesh. Through the Foreign Aid Office of the UAE Embassy in Dhaka, food and non-food packages are being distributed among around 10,000 families in disaster-hit areas across the country.
As part of the initiative, humanitarian assistance was distributed among 1,500 families affected by floods and landslides in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram.
Secretary Dr Md Zakaria, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau, attended the aid distribution ceremony as the chief guest. Rashed Mohammed Nasser Almeili Aljabi, Director of Foreign Aid at the Embassy of the UAE in Bangladesh, was also present.
Rashed Mohammed Nasser Almeili Aljabi said, “It is our humanitarian responsibility to stand by people affected by disasters such as floods and landslides. This assistance programme is being carried out to meet the urgent needs of affected families and ease their suffering to some extent during this difficult time.”
Recent floods and landslides have left many families in different parts of the country facing difficult circumstances after losing their homes and livelihoods. The initiative aims to help meet their urgent needs for food and essential items, it was said.
The UAE government’s humanitarian initiative reflects its commitment to supporting the people of Bangladesh during disasters and crises. It is also expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries, officials concerned said.
