Chinese President Xi Jinping Visits Egypt After A Decade
Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping has arrived in Cairo for a historic three-day state visit, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China and is his first visit to Egypt since 2016. The visit, which was welcomed by Egyptian President Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, is to assess the 2014 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and promote political and economic relations in the face of growing Middle East regional tensions.
The visit’s main purpose, according to Egyptian Presidency spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, is to evaluate diplomatic ties and discuss issues of common regional and global significance. By the end of 2025, bilateral trade had reached over $20.7 billion, indicating the growing economic links between Egypt and China. Egypt’s economy was being driven by Chinese investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. President Sisi also praised Chinese assistance for Egypt’s concerns about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the sharing of Nile water.
President Xi Jinping emphasized long-term diplomatic alignment, pointing out that despite changes in the global environment, diplomatic ties have remained stable for seven decades and that both nations are actively cooperating on the Gaza crisis and Palestinian rights. In light of the recent political instability in the Middle East, analysts point out that this visit would strengthen Beijing’s economic and diplomatic power.
