UK Announces Strict Measures in Response to Illegal Israeli Settlements
In reaction to Israel’s contentious and illegal settlement construction project in the occupied West Bank, the UK is to announce a comprehensive package of disciplinary measures. While speaking to parliamentarians in the nation, British Foreign Secretary Mr. Ed Miliband affirmed this, saying that specifics about these actions will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
According to Foreign Secretary Mr. Miliband, the realization of Israel’s planned E1 settlement project would seriously threaten the possibility of creating a sovereign Palestinian state and immediately damage the physical separation of a promised independent Palestinian state. Any kind of colonial development or outpost formation in occupied areas is strictly prohibited by international law.
Mr. Miliband added further, ‘Our administration will not watch silently while a two-state approach is destroyed. In the upcoming weeks, we will publish an overview of complete steps and take the appropriate action’.
Notably, the main goal of the controversial E1 project is to provide a continuous corridor between the large Israeli settlement of ‘Ma’ale Adumim,’ which is situated around 7 kilometers to the east, and controlled East Jerusalem. The Israeli government has issued a call for offers to build more than 1,200 new homes as part of this initiative.
According to diplomatic sources, the British prime minister and senior Labor Party leadership may soon accept the execution of sanctions on any goods connected to this illegal E1 project.
